Scale-crested Pygmy Tyrant, Lophotriccus pileatus, is a passerine of the Tyrannidae family found in Middle America and South America, from Costa Rica to northern Venezuela and south-eastern Peru. It is a small forest bird with a prominent crown of elongated feathers, which it can raise and spread. The species was first described in 1844. It lives in humid and wet woodland, mature secondary growth, forest margins and openings, and its range is split across several Andean and northern South American populations.
