Scale-throated Earthcreeper, Upucerthia dumetaria, is a passerine of the Furnariidae family that breeds in the Southern Cone of South America. It occurs in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Peru, and has also been reported from Uruguay. A large earthcreeper, it is marked by a long, strongly downcurved bill. The sexes look alike. It lives in puna grassland and dry scrub, especially on rocky slopes, shrub-steppe, ravines and outcrops, and can be found up to 4,000 m. Most birds stay in place through the year, though some move north in the southern winter.
