Scaled Antpitta

Geobiastes squamiger

The Scaled Antpitta (Geobiastes squamiger) is a small, cryptic bird species found in the cloud forests of the Andes mountains in South America. This species is known for its distinctive scaled plumage on the underparts, which provides excellent camouflage among the leaf litter on the forest floor. Scaled Antpittas are primarily insectivorous, foraging for invertebrates and small arthropods in the dense undergrowth. They are known for their shy and elusive behavior, making them difficult to observe in the wild. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Scaled Antpitta faces conservation concerns, and its population trend is currently unknown.
