Capitonidae — New World Barbets
Scarlet-banded Barbet, Capito wallacei, is a New World barbet of the family Capitonidae that breeds in north-central Peru. It is confined to a single known site in the Cordillera Azul National Park in south-western Loreto, where it lives in humid, mossy sub-montane and montane forest. The bird was formally described in 2000 by O'Neill, Lane, Kratter, Capparella & Fox Joo. It is the only member of its kind recognised by the IOC. Its plumage is notable for a scarlet cap and nape, a white supercilium, black ear coverts, a yellow mid-back and a large white rump patch.
