Scarlet-breasted Fruiteater, Pipreola frontalis, is a cotinga of the eastern Andes in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, breeding from northern Ecuador south to Bolivia. It lives in montane forest on the Andean slopes, and is placed in the family Cotingidae. The bird is a plump, short-tailed fruiteater with green upperparts; the male has a red throat and upper breast, while the female shows yellow underparts with green patterning. It is found from mid-levels to the sub-canopy and feeds mainly on fruit. Two subspecies are recognised, though some authorities treat them as separate species.
