Scarlet-chested Sunbird

Chalcomitra senegalensis (Linnaeus, 1766)

Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Chalcomitra senegalensis, is a bird of western, central, eastern and southern Africa, where it occurs across many parts of sub-Saharan Africa. It lives in woodland and gardens, and can be found at heights of up to 2,400 metres. Adult males are marked by a red to scarlet breast and an iridescent green area on the crown. The female is dark brown and lacks a supercilium. It belongs to the sunbird family, Nectariniidae, and was described by Linnaeus in 1766.
