Scarlet-crowned Barbet, Capito aurovirens, is a bird of the western Amazon Basin in South America, where it occurs in Amazonian Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. It belongs to the New World barbets in the family Capitonidae and was described by Cuvier in 1829. This species is monotypic. It is a chunky barbet with a heavy bill. The male has a red crown that runs onto the nape, while the female shows a white crown that changes to olive on the nape.
