Scarlet Myzomela

Myzomela sanguinolenta

The Scarlet Myzomela is a small passerine bird native to the islands of New Guinea and nearby areas. It is known for its striking scarlet plumage, with black wings and tail. The male has a brilliant red head and throat, while the female is slightly duller in color. These birds are typically found in lowland forests, forest edges, and gardens, where they feed on nectar, insects, and fruit. They are often observed darting among flowers and foliage in search of food. The Scarlet Myzomela is not currently considered to be globally threatened, but habitat loss and degradation may pose future challenges to its populations.
