Sclater's antwren

Myrmotherula sclateri

Sclater's antwren (Myrmotherula sclateri) is a small passerine bird found in the Amazon rainforest of South America. This species is known for its distinctive black and white plumage, with the male sporting a black crown and back, and the female having a rufous-brown crown. These insectivorous birds forage in the dense understory, often in mixed-species flocks, and are known for their high-pitched vocalizations. Sclater's antwrens build their cup-shaped nests in low vegetation, and the female is responsible for incubating the eggs. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the conservation status of this species is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
