Goura sclaterii
Sclater's crowned pigeon is a large, ground-dwelling bird native to the lowland rainforests of New Guinea. It is characterized by its striking blue and maroon plumage, with a prominent fan-shaped crest on its head. These pigeons are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits and seeds found in the forest understory. They are known for their distinctive booming calls and elaborate courtship displays. Sclater's crowned pigeons play a vital role in seed dispersal within their habitat, contributing to the diversity of plant species. Unfortunately, habitat loss and hunting pressure have led to population declines, resulting in a vulnerable conservation status.
