Scripps's Murrelet

Synthliboramphus scrippsi

Scripps's Murrelet is a small seabird that breeds along the coast of California and Baja California. It has a dark brown head, white underparts, and a distinctive black and white pattern on its wings. During the breeding season, it nests in rocky crevices and lays a single egg. Outside of the breeding season, it can be found foraging at sea, often in close proximity to kelp beds. This species is known for its rapid, low flight over the water's surface. Scripps's Murrelet is vulnerable to threats such as oil spills, pollution, and disturbance at breeding sites.
