Sedge Wren

Cistothorus platensis

The Sedge Wren (Cistothorus platensis) is a small, secretive bird found in wet grasslands and marshes of North and South America. This wren is known for its distinctive buzzing and trilling songs, often heard before it is seen. It has a compact body, short tail, and streaked brown plumage, providing excellent camouflage in its marshy habitat. Sedge Wrens forage for insects and spiders in dense vegetation and build their cup-shaped nests close to the ground. Despite its small size, this species is an important indicator of the health of wetland ecosystems. Threats to its habitat, such as drainage and development, pose significant conservation challenges.
