Batis senegalensis (Linnaeus, 1766)

Senegal Batis, Batis senegalensis, is a passerine of the Platysteiridae family that breeds across western and central Africa, from southern Mauritania to Sierra Leone and east to Niger, Chad and Cameroon. It lives in dry thorn scrub, open savannah and sparsely wooded grassland, including acacia and baobab woodland. A small, restless bird, it is marked by the black, white and grey patterning typical of batises. The species was first described by Linnaeus in 1766, and it is placed in the genus Batis.
