Senegal Coucal
Centropus monachus
The Senegal Coucal (Centropus monachus) is a species of cuckoo found in sub-Saharan Africa. It is a large, ground-dwelling bird with a long tail and a distinctive black plumage with white spots on the wings. This species is known for its loud, repetitive call that echoes through the savannas and woodlands where it resides. The Senegal Coucal is primarily insectivorous, foraging for insects, small reptiles, and amphibians in the undergrowth. It builds a domed nest in dense vegetation and is often seen foraging on the ground. Despite being a relatively common species, the Senegal Coucal faces threats from habitat loss and fragmentation.
