Senegal Lapwing

Vanellus lugubris

The Senegal Lapwing is a medium-sized wader bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its striking black and white plumage, with a distinctive red eye and red bill. These birds are commonly found in open grasslands, floodplains, and wetlands, where they forage for insects, small invertebrates, and seeds. They are known for their distinctive call, a repetitive 'kleep-kleep-kleep' sound. The Senegal Lapwing is known for its distinctive flight display, where it performs aerial acrobatics. While the population is currently stable, these birds face threats from habitat loss and degradation.
