Sentinel Rock Thrush

Monticola explorator (Vieillot, 1818)

Sentinel Rock Thrush, Monticola explorator, is a passerine in the Muscicapidae family and breeds in southern Africa, including Lesotho, South Africa and Eswatini. It lives among rocky outcrops in high-altitude grassland, where it is closely tied to this upland habitat. The species was first described in 1818 by Vieillot. It is one of the birds placed in the genus Monticola, which now contains 15 species. Its scientific name was originally published under a different genus, and the specific name means scout, explorer or searcher.
