Seven-colored Tanager

Tangara fastuosa (Lesson, RP, 1831)

Thraupidae — Tanagers & Allies

Seven-colored Tanager, Tangara fastuosa, is a tanager of eastern Brazil in the family Thraupidae. It breeds in forests in north-eastern Brazil and is endemic to that part of the country. It is noted for its strikingly varied plumage. It is similar in overall appearance to the greener green-headed tanager, a bird that is also called the seven-coloured tanager in Portuguese, which can cause confusion between the two species. The scientific name was given by Lesson in 1831.
