Shining Flycatcher

Myiagra alecto

The Shining Flycatcher (Myiagra alecto) is a small, insectivorous bird found in the forests and woodlands of northern and eastern Australia, as well as in New Guinea and nearby islands. This species is known for its striking plumage, with the male displaying glossy blue-black upperparts and a bright white underbelly, while the female has a more subdued grayish-brown plumage. Shining Flycatchers are often observed perching on exposed branches, making short sallies to catch flying insects. Their melodious calls can be heard throughout their forested habitats, where they forage for small invertebrates. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to their populations.
