Shining Honeycreeper

Mandingoa nitidula

The Shining Honeycreeper (Mandingoa nitidula) is a small, brightly colored bird found in the tropical forests of South America. This species is known for its vibrant plumage, with males displaying a brilliant blue coloration on the head, back, and wings, while the females have a more subdued greenish-blue plumage. Shining Honeycreepers primarily feed on nectar, fruit, and insects, using their slender, curved bills to extract nectar from flowers. They are often observed in the upper canopy of the forest, where they move quickly and agilely among the branches. Although they are generally common within their range, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential threats to their populations.
