Short-billed Canastero, Asthenes baeri, is a passerine of the ovenbird family Furnariidae, breeding in south-eastern and south-central South America. It lives in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, with the nominate form in southern Bolivia, western Paraguay, central Argentina, extreme south-eastern Brazil and western Uruguay. It is a bird of arid lowland scrub, Gran Chaco scrub and woodland, and Monte Desert woodland, from sea level to 1,300 m. Its bill is short and thick, and the sexes look alike. The species has three recognised subspecies, including A. b. chacoensis and A. b. neiffi.
