Short-billed Miner

Geositta antarctica

The Short-billed Miner is a small, ground-dwelling bird found in the southernmost regions of South America, including parts of Argentina and Chile. It is well-adapted to its harsh, arid habitat, with a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage among the rocky and sandy terrain. This species is known for its distinctive short, straight bill, which it uses to forage for insects and small invertebrates. Short-billed Miners are typically solitary or found in pairs, and they are known for their rapid, mouse-like movements as they scurry across the ground in search of food.
