Patagioenas nigrirostris
The Short-billed Pigeon, or Patagioenas nigrirostris, is a medium-sized pigeon found in Central and South America. It is characterized by its distinctive short and stout bill, as well as its iridescent green and purple plumage on the neck and upperparts. The underparts are a rich chestnut color, and the tail is often white-tipped. These pigeons are typically found in humid lowland forests and adjacent semi-open areas, where they forage for fruits and seeds. They are known for their low, rhythmic cooing calls. The Short-billed Pigeon is generally considered to be of Least Concern in terms of conservation status, as it has a wide distribution and is not currently facing major threats.
