Short-tailed Akalat, Sheppardia poensis, is a bird in the Muscicapidae family that breeds from south-east Nigeria and Bioko Island to eastern DR Congo and western Tanzania. It occurs across parts of Central Africa. Its natural homes include boreal forest, dry tropical forest, swampy tropical forest, and moist montane forest. It was once treated as the same species as Bocage's Akalat, but the IOC recognised it as separate in 2021. It was described by Alexander in 1903.
