Short-tailed Antthrush

Myrmornis torquata

The Short-tailed Antthrush is a small, secretive bird found in the understory of humid tropical forests in South America. It is known for its distinctive song, a series of clear, whistled notes. This species forages on the forest floor, using its long legs and bill to probe for insects and other invertebrates. The plumage is predominantly brown with subtle patterns, providing excellent camouflage among the leaf litter. Despite its secretive nature, the Short-tailed Antthrush is an important indicator of the health of its forest habitat.
