Short-tailed Green Magpie

Cissa thalassina

The Short-tailed Green Magpie (Cissa thalassina) is a striking bird found in the forests of Southeast Asia. With its vibrant green plumage, black mask, and long tail, it is a visually stunning species. These magpies are known for their raucous calls and social behavior, often moving in small groups through the forest canopy. They are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits, insects, and small vertebrates. The Short-tailed Green Magpie plays an important role in forest ecosystems as a seed disperser and predator of invertebrates. Despite being relatively common in its range, habitat loss and fragmentation pose threats to its populations.
