Short-tailed Hawk

Short-tailed Hawk, Buteo brachyurus, is a bird of prey of Middle America and South America, breeding from Mexico to northern Argentina and also in southern Florida. It belongs to the Accipitridae and was described by Vieillot in 1816. It is a woodland species, often linked with trees near water, and in Florida it nests in bald cypress. The nest is a bulky stick structure placed in a tree, and the clutch holds one to three white eggs, usually marked with dark spots and blotches. In Florida, the breeding season runs from January to June.
