Lurocalis semitorquatus
The Short-tailed Nighthawk is a nocturnal bird species found in Central and South America. It is characterized by its cryptic plumage, long wings, and short tail. During the day, these birds roost on tree branches, where their mottled brown and gray plumage provides excellent camouflage. At night, they emerge to hunt for flying insects, using their agile flight and sharp beak to catch prey in mid-air. Short-tailed Nighthawks are often found in open woodlands, savannas, and forest edges, where they can easily maneuver through the dense vegetation. They are known for their distinctive calls, which include a series of nasal, buzzy notes.
