Short-tailed Parrot

Graydidascalus brachyurus (Temminck & Kuhl, 1820)

Short-tailed Parrot, Graydidascalus brachyurus, is a parrot of Amazonia in South America, recorded from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana and Peru. It is the only species in its genus and has no recognised subspecies. The bird has a large head and a very short tail. Adults are mostly green, with yellowish underparts and upper tail coverts, dark lores, darker green flight feathers, yellow-edged wing coverts, a reddish-brown shoulder patch, red at the base of the outer tail feathers, a bill that varies from light green to dark grey, and an orange-red iris.
