Short-toed rock thrush
Monticola brevipes
The Short-toed rock thrush (Monticola brevipes) is a small passerine bird found in rocky areas and open woodlands of central and southern Africa. This species is known for its striking blue plumage on the upperparts of the male, while the female has a more subdued brown coloration. Short-toed rock thrushes are insectivorous and often forage on the ground, hopping and darting between rocks and shrubs in search of prey. They are known for their melodious song, which is often heard during the breeding season. Despite being relatively common in its range, the Short-toed rock thrush faces threats from habitat loss and degradation.
