Shy Heathwren, Hylacola cauta, is a passerine of southern Australia in the Acanthizidae family, first described by Gould in 1843. It is an uncommon resident of mallee woodland, especially where the shrub and heath layer is thick. The species is found across a broad stretch of the south, from western New South Wales through South Australia to Western Australia, with isolated populations in New South Wales and on Kangaroo Island. It nests close to the ground in a domed structure hidden in tussocks or shrubs, and usually lays two or three freckled, pinkish eggs.
