Siberian Nuthatch

Siberian Nuthatch, Sitta arctica, is a passerine in the family Sittidae and breeds in north-east Siberia. It was described by Buturlin in 1907. It lives in forests north-east of Lake Baikal, extending towards the Bering Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk, but away from the coast, and is also found in Daurian larch stands on flood plains. It is separated from the Eurasian Nuthatch by a set of structural differences, including the bill, claws, underwing and outer tail feathers, and it was recognised as distinct in 2006 after earlier being treated as a subspecies.
