Siberian Sand Plover

Siberian Sand Plover, Anarhynchus mongolus, breeds in south and south-east Siberia and winters along coasts from southern Japan and Taiwan through Vietnam to Australia, New Guinea, Melanesia and western Micronesia. It is a plover in the Charadriidae family. This bird is a chunky, long-legged, long-billed wader. Breeding males show grey upperparts and white underparts, with chestnut on the breast, forehead and nape and a black mask through the eye. Females are plainer, and winter and young birds lack the chestnut apart from a little rufous on the head.
