Siberian Stonechat

Saxicola maurus

The Siberian Stonechat is a small passerine bird found in open grassland, scrub, and agricultural areas across Asia and parts of Europe and Africa. It is known for its distinctive black head, white collar, and rusty-orange breast, with the female having more subdued colors. These birds are often seen perched on top of bushes or wires, where they hunt for insects and small invertebrates. They are migratory, with populations in the northern parts of their range moving south for the winter. The Siberian Stonechat is a relatively common species, but habitat loss and agricultural intensification pose threats to its populations in some areas.
