Silver Gull

Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae (Stephens, 1826)

Silver Gull, Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae, is a gull of Australasia, breeding inland in southern Australia and along the coast across Australia, as well as on coastal New Zealand, its outlying islands and New Caledonia. It is the common gull of Australia and is often seen near shorelines and human settlements. Adults have white head, body and tail, pale grey wings with black tips marked by white spots, and a bright red bill. Young birds show brown wing patterning and a dark bill. It was described by Stephens in 1826.
