Spatula versicolor

The Silver Teal (Spatula versicolor) is a small dabbling duck found in South America. It has a distinctive silver-blue speculum and a chestnut patch on its wings. The male has a striking iridescent green head and a white crescent-shaped patch in front of its eyes. The female is mottled brown with a grayish-blue bill. Silver Teals are typically found in freshwater wetlands, marshes, and lagoons, where they feed on aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates. They are known for their agile and acrobatic flight, often seen in small flocks. The species is not globally threatened and is categorized as Least Concern by the IUCN.
