Ninox hantu
The Simeulue Hawk-owl, also known as Ninox hantu, is a small to medium-sized owl species found in the Simeulue and Banyak Islands of Indonesia. It has a distinctive appearance with large, dark eyes and mottled brown and white plumage that provides excellent camouflage in its forest habitat. These owls are primarily nocturnal and are skilled hunters, preying on small mammals, birds, and insects. Their haunting calls can often be heard echoing through the dense tropical forests where they reside. The Simeulue Hawk-owl faces threats from habitat loss and degradation due to deforestation and human encroachment.
