Slate-throated Gnatcatcher

Polioptila schistaceigula

The Slate-throated Gnatcatcher is a small, active songbird found in the neotropical region of Central and South America. It is characterized by its slate-gray upperparts, white underparts, and distinctive black cap. This species is often found in humid forests, where it forages for insects and spiders in the canopy and mid-levels of the trees. The Slate-throated Gnatcatcher is known for its high-pitched, nasal calls and its acrobatic foraging behavior. It is a social bird, often found in small groups or mixed-species flocks. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to its long-term survival.
