Slaty-backed Solitaire
Myadestes genibarbis
The Slaty-backed Solitaire, also known as the Slaty Solitaire, is a medium-sized thrush found in the highland forests of Mexico and Central America. It is known for its distinctive slate-gray plumage and striking white eye-ring. This species is often observed foraging for fruits and insects in the dense understorey of montane cloud forests. Its haunting, flute-like song can be heard echoing through the misty mountain valleys. The Slaty-backed Solitaire is known for its solitary nature and is often seen perched motionless for long periods. Although not currently considered globally threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential future threats to this species.
