Poliolimnas cinereus
The Slaty-breasted Rail (Poliolimnas cinereus) is a small to medium-sized bird found in wetlands and marshy areas across Southeast Asia and the Pacific. This rail species is characterized by its slate-grey plumage, with a distinctive white line running down its throat and breast. It has a secretive nature and is often heard rather than seen, emitting a series of loud, repetitive calls. The Slaty-breasted Rail forages for invertebrates and small vertebrates in the dense vegetation of its habitat, using its long bill to probe for food. While not currently considered globally threatened, the destruction and degradation of its wetland habitats pose potential risks to its populations.
