Amaurornis moluccana
The Slaty-breasted Rail (Amaurornis moluccana) is a medium-sized bird found in the wetlands and marshes of Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands. It is characterized by its distinctive slaty-gray plumage on the breast and belly, with a combination of brown, black, and white on the wings and back. This secretive bird is often heard calling with its loud, repetitive 'krek' sound, but it can be difficult to spot due to its shy and elusive nature. The Slaty-breasted Rail forages for insects, small fish, and seeds in the dense vegetation of its wetland habitat, using its long legs to navigate through the marshy terrain.
