Slaty-capped Flycatcher

Leptopogon superciliaris

The Slaty-capped Flycatcher is a small, insectivorous bird found in the highland forests of Central and South America. It is characterized by its slaty blue cap, olive-green upperparts, and yellowish underparts. This species is known for its distinctive call, a sharp 'che-bek' or 'che-burr' sound. Slaty-capped Flycatchers are often observed perching in the mid to upper levels of the forest, sallying out to catch flying insects. They are known to breed in montane forests and can be found at elevations ranging from 900 to 2800 meters. During the non-breeding season, they may also occur in lower elevation forests and forest edges.
