Slaty Elaenia

Elaenia strepera Cabanis, 1883

Slaty Elaenia, Elaenia strepera, is a passerine of the tyrant flycatcher family that breeds in Bolivia and north-western Argentina and spends the non-breeding season in Venezuela. It is a complete migrant, moving north after breeding. In the breeding season it uses rather open woodland and forest margins, often beside water, and it also occupies similar habitat on passage. It is a small elaenia with a slight crest. Adults show slate-grey upperparts, a dark bill with a dull orange base to the lower mandible, and a white eyering. The species was described by Cabanis in 1883.
