Slaty Gnateater, Conopophaga ardesiaca, is a passerine of the gnateater family that breeds in southern Peru and southern Bolivia. It is a bird of the eastern Andean slope, where it lives in the Yungas belt. Its usual home is thick growth in rainforest, especially around fallen trees, road margins and other openings. The species shows marked variation in plumage, and birds from Cochabamba in Bolivia are notably darker than others. It also has a white tuft behind the eye, while the female shows a smaller tuft and a white patch on the belly.
