Slaty Spinetail, Synallaxis brachyura, is a passerine of the Furnariidae that breeds from north-central Honduras south through Middle America and into northern Peru. It was described by Lafresnaye in 1843. The species is a resident across its range and is found in dense, tangled habitats such as second-growth scrub, riparian thickets, overgrown clearings, forest edges, thorn scrub, swamp margins and gardens. It usually stays below 1,400 m, though it reaches 2,000 m in Colombia. Four subspecies are recognised, with different regional distributions from Honduras to Peru and across Colombia.
