Slender-billed Rail

Calamonastides gracilirostris

The Slender-billed Rail (Calamonastides gracilirostris) is a small, secretive bird found in wetlands and marshes of Southeast Asia. This species is characterized by its slender, slightly curved bill and cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage in its habitat. Slender-billed Rails are primarily crepuscular and nocturnal, foraging for invertebrates and small vertebrates in the dense vegetation. They are known for their loud, repetitive calls during the breeding season. Despite their widespread distribution, these rails are often difficult to observe due to their elusive nature and habitat preferences.
