Small-billed Tinamou

Crypturellus parvirostris

The Small-billed Tinamou is a small ground-dwelling bird found in the tropical forests of South America. It has a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage, making it difficult to spot in its dense habitat. This species is known for its distinctive whistling calls that can be heard in the early morning and late afternoon. Small-billed Tinamous primarily feed on fruits, seeds, and insects, foraging on the forest floor. They are shy and elusive birds, often remaining hidden in the underbrush. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the Small-billed Tinamou faces conservation concerns in some parts of its range.
