Smooth-billed Ani, Crotophaga ani, is a cuckoo found in North America, Middle America and South America, from southern Florida to northern Argentina. It lives in open and semi-open country and in cultivated areas, and it has spread well where woodland has been cleared. It is a gregarious bird that gathers in noisy groups. The adult is mostly glossy black, with a long tail, a deeply ridged bill and a brown iris. It is a resident breeder across its range, and it builds a communal nest in trees, with several females sharing the eggs and care of the young.
