Snow Mountain Robin

Snow Mountain Robin, Petroica archboldi, is a bird of high montane western New Guinea in Australasia, breeding in West Papua, Indonesia. It was described by Rand in 1940 and belongs to the Petroicidae, the Australasian robins. It is found only in the Puncak Trikora area and the Freeport McMoran Grasberg gold mine near Puncak Jaya, where access is restricted. The bird lives on rocky slopes without trees, at 3,850 to 4,150 metres, and is marked by a white forehead spot and a large crimson breast patch.
