Snowy-crowned Tern

Snowy-crowned Tern, Sterna trudeaui, breeds in coastal south-east Brazil and Uruguay, inland eastern Argentina, and along the Chilean coast from Aconcagua to Llanquihue. It is a bird of wetlands, using both coastal and inland sites, with a preference for freshwater places. It nests mainly in lagoons of the Pampas and Patagonia, and also on islands in coastal lagoons. The species was described by Audubon in 1838. It is a monotypic tern in the gull, tern and skimmer family, and is also known as Trudeau’s Tern.
