Snowy Sheathbill

Chionis albus

The Snowy Sheathbill is a unique and opportunistic seabird found in the Antarctic region. With its distinctive white plumage and stout build, it is well-adapted to the harsh polar environment. This species is known for its scavenging behavior, often feeding on carrion and waste around penguin and seal colonies. Snowy Sheathbills are highly social birds, often found in small groups or pairs. They are also known for their aggressive behavior, especially during the breeding season. Despite their seemingly delicate appearance, these birds are remarkably resilient and have successfully adapted to the extreme conditions of the Antarctic.
